Sunset Kombucha
Digital art collection, 2023

Sunset Kombucha is a collection created during the second summer of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Inspired by sunsets in Odesa, the sea, kombucha, meditation, and moments of inner reflection, the works explore resilience, renewal, mindfulness, and the ability to find beauty despite uncertainty and fear.

Balancing emotional vulnerability with warmth and vitality, the collection reflects on preserving inner light during difficult times. Through abstract self-portraits and vibrant AI-generated sunset landscapes, the works capture values that remain untouchable even during war:
Harmony, Love, Care, Vigour, Faith, and Radiance.

The collection consists of six abstract digital self-portraits created in Procreate and combined with AI-generated backgrounds.

Harmony

This piece reflects on balance emerging through contrast and complexity. Layered forms create a visual dialogue between chaos, simplicity, and coexistence.

Love

A work exploring emotional connection, tenderness, and unity. Flowing forms and warm tones reflect the transformative power of love and belonging.

Care

An exploration of compassion, empathy, and shared responsibility. The work reflects on human connection and the importance of supporting one another through difficult times.

Vigour

A portrait of resilience, movement, and inner energy. Dynamic abstract forms symbolise growth, transformation and perseverance through adversity.

Faith

This work explores belief, trust and hope within uncertainty. The composition reflects on faith as an emotional force that guides through darkness and change.

Radiance

A piece dedicated to the inner light carried within every person. Vibrant glowing forms symbolise hope, strength and the ability to inspire even during difficult moments.

Inspiration

Sunset Kombucha was inspired by sunsets over Odesa, reflections on the sea, warm summer evenings, kombucha and moments of meditation during the second summer of the war in Ukraine. These everyday moments of beauty, calm, and presence became a way of holding onto light, softness, and inner balance despite the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding daily life.
Development and Process

The process began with collecting sunset references inspired by the sea, evening skies and warm summer light in Odesa. These sunset landscapes were generated and selected as emotional environments for each work, reflecting calmness, warmth, energy, and introspection.
The portraits were then hand-drawn in Procreate as abstract self-portraits, using minimal lines, flowing forms, and simplified facial features to focus on emotion rather than realism. By combining the portraits with AI-generated sunset backgrounds, the process merged personal reflection with dreamlike atmospheres, creating works that balance vulnerability, softness and resilience.
