Lumen Intus
Digital art collection, 2023

Lumen Intus (Latin for “The Light Within”) is a collection exploring inner light, resilience, spirituality, and emotional strength. Created in response to life in Ukraine during electricity blackouts caused by the full-scale war, the works reflect on moments when entire cities were left in darkness while emphasizing that inner light, hope, and humanity cannot be taken away.

Through abstract portraiture, movement, sound and glowing forms, the collection explores self-awareness, transcendence, and the enduring strength of the human spirit.

The collection consists of three digital artworks created in Procreate and Adobe After Effects, accompanied by AI-generated sound.

Radiance of the Soul

A work exploring resilience and the enduring presence of inner strength. Light, shadow, motion, and sound create a sense of transcendence and emotional perseverance.

The Art of Glow

This piece reflects on the idea of inner illumination as a source of hope during difficult times. Pulsating movement and glowing forms symbolise the persistence of the human spirit.

The Blazing Light

An abstract portrait exploring the unique inner light carried by every individual. The work reflects on personal strength, energy and the ability to illuminate one’s path despite darkness.

Inspiration

Lumen Intus was inspired by everyday life in Odesa, Ukraine during electricity blackouts caused by the full-scale war. Entire streets and homes were left without light, turning cities into dark silent spaces illuminated only by candles and small temporary sources of warmth. Everyday routines transformed into acts of adaptation: making tea without electricity, gathering around candlelight, and finding comfort in quiet moments despite uncertainty.

These experiences became the emotional foundation of the collection. The works reflect on how, even during darkness and instability, inner light, hope and human resilience remain impossible to take away.
Development and Process

The collection developed through a layered process combining photography, digital drawing, animation, and sound. Each work began with self-portrait photography, capturing gestures, light, and emotional expression, followed by simplified line sketches used to explore composition and movement. These images were then transformed through digital abstraction, distortion, and fluid glowing forms inspired by light emerging through darkness.
